This story is a fan's dream come true. It's a remix and mashup of the crews in a really fun way. There are surprises and easter eggs around every corner. You get answers for things that have been questions for a long time but that you had no idea were even going to be addressed in this book. If you ever wondered/imagined what it would be like for X to work with Y, this is the story.I recently read the TNG mirror stuff and it's fine, but this book is so fun. The whole idea is so fresh and new. Definitely get this over those.I only have 2 minor nitpicks. No NX-01 crew. And it would have been nice to have the TNG crew in their TV uniforms, DS9 in the gray ones, VOY and TOS in theirs. As it is, they have DS9 and VOY in the same VOY uniforms with TNG in the gray...and there are always a ton of characters in most panels, so that would have helped differentiate them visually. The art is nice with some very good likenesses. Every once in a while a background character will lack detail in a distracting way, or be drawn wrong...for example Worf looks like his ridges are on the top of his head in some of those. Some of the covers are fantastic. The story is very well done. And the individual voices of the characters comes out in the writing a majority of the time.If you are even thinking about this one, get it, it's worth it. Star Trek:Year 5 got me back into Star Trek comics after a long hiatus from my teenage years (I grew up on the DC line which was really quite good for a Star Trek Comic at the time). I've really liked the writing and art for the Year 5 comics and they've felt like real episodes of the series. I was so impressed with what I had read that I figured I'd take a chance at the other IDW Star Trek offerings. I read good reviews of the Q conflict and decided to pick this up and I have to say as a mash-up, it lacks most of what I would want in a story. The mixed up crews could have been cool, but feel like random pairings that don't really allow the reader to see these characters in a new light. There were fun call backs to different items and civilizations, but I think the Tiptons missed the ball in exploring interesting character pairings. Also, Q's characterization here is really off from what we've seen on screen (they seem to have taken inspiration from the god-awful episode Hide and Q) and feels childish (more like Trelane). The art for most of the comic is also really bad as far as the main crews go. It distracted from the story in a bad way. I wish I would have liked this more, but sadly this is a forgettable series and my copy will end up at Good Will in short order.
